On the Eighth Day of Blogmas: Thinking of New Year’s Day

Well, we’re five brief days from Christmas and I’m beginning to think this year may really be a wash-out. I don’t mean to sound glum, but between my cold (which I’ve passed on to Aleksa) and my unsuccessful attempts at shopping for gifts, we’ll just have to see how I pull this one off.

To cope, I’ve been thinking a lot about New Year’s Day. I like the idea of setting resolutions — doesn’t it seem like something I’d like? But I’ve never actually claimed any official New Year’s resolutions. Not aloud, anyway. Are we supposed to be sharing them aloud?

Unlike Christmas, New Year’s Day has never been a big deal in my family. We only had one real tradition: watching The Twilight Zone marathon on the SyFy channel. We’s maybe tune in to the ball drop in Times Square. But it was mostly binge-watching The Twilight Zone in the dark with my mom, eating cheese and crackers and waiting for whatever horrors awaited the episode.

Maybe this is an important framework to lean on, now that I think about it. I’ve got to look at the simple things in life, like eating cheese and crackers, as we approach the holidays head on.

Until tomorrow’s longer thoughts,

That Blogmas Girl
